The honest bit. The essential oil version is the one we would talk you out of if anyone in the house has asthma. Terpenes such as d-limonene and linalool are themselves volatile organic compounds, and they can react with indoor ozone to form formaldehyde and ultrafine particles. Plant-derived is not the same as inert.
